My Story……

Well I have been bashing car parks for some years and have progressed through many cars and sets of tyres.  It came to a point where I needed to progress into something different (a new car).  My search started, after many hours reading magazines, visiting websites and scouring many shops, off I trotted to our local dealer.

The car I had got my eye on was a Yokomo GT4 RTR.  To my horror he hadn't one in stock, but was quite keen in ordering in one for me to have a look at ……….

Its arrived……

The phone call I had been waiting for, the car was in and ready for my first inspection in the flesh.  First impressions with a car are very important and believe me it scored very high…. Ok so the box could have done with a bit of colour but pop the lid and what was inside was only to be described as a pure extravagance.  Was this really the basis of a car that was going to pushed to the point of destruction on the local supermarket car park, could I justify  “bashing” such a high spec chassis……. Well after a moment to consider my thoughts there was only one way to go, I parted with the required amount of dollar and it was mine.

GT4 goes carbon……

One of the first areas of upgrade was to try and add a bit more stiffness to the already very stable chassis.  Market choices were restrictive - aluminium braces or carbon sheet products.  I opted to go carbon, not much on the market but I located a supplier of what I can only class as high spec carbon tweaks.

The upgrade continued…..

The basic spec of the car didn't leave a lot to be altered . . . . Its was going to be a game of enhancing looks as well as performance.  The plastic tuned pipe soon found a home in the shed and was replaced with a nice shinny aluminium pipe (Hot Bodies Product).  Air filter was quite at home next to the old pipe and was replaced with a foam element “Motor Saver” product.  Set screws were swapped for blue aluminium additions and the main front to rear drive belt was set up with a Yokomo belt tensioner.

The first run…...

Starting the new engine seemed to be of great ease, the first couple of tanks were run through with the car sat supported on my workstation at just above tick over.  It was then down to the local car park to continue with the running in process.  After a few more tanks of fuel, running the car at various speeds over a figure of eight circuit, it became quite apparent that this car was going to be the one to be reckoned with for this summers car park challenge.  The chassis was both smooth and responsive, it was easy to see that this car was a development of a pure racing machine.  The engine and chassis soon bed in to a state where driving the car was a sheer pleasure.  Over the next few weeks it was going to be great fun tweaking and preparing for some summer nights of real fun.
